The Hydra Project is an attempt to create an useful generalization.
Many programs are small tools. They perform small tasks. And they have a small structure.
In many cases, that structure is similar to others. And can be subsumed into a bigger picture.
The Hydra Project focuses in HTML pages. Apart from the basic tasks you can perform (GET, POST...), there is a small set of functions that cover 90% of the uses.
The Hydra Project is that set of functions. Functions like download a web page and the associated images, follow links up to the second level of nesting...
From the Theoi site: "The Hydra was a gigantic water serpent with nine heads, one of which was inmortal". Those nine heads represent the parallel behaviour of our proyect: some thread (head) is requesting a file while other is checking a proxy while other... You choose.
For more technically oriented users, Hydra stands for HYpertext Distributed
Retrieval Aid.
The Hydra Project is coded in Perl. It is released under the same terms
as Perl itself. That is, the GNU General Public
License. This means you can download it and use it for free. And modify it for
you own purposes. But you better read the license here
The Hydra Project would not be very useful unless completed with programs that use it. Here you have the list of current programs. Click on each link for further information on every project:
